MY JOURNEY AS A MEDIA STUDENT

Mass communication is a fascinating and dynamic field that covers a wide range of media forms and functions, such as journalism, public relations, advertising, broadcasting, digital media and more. As a mass communication student, I have had the privilege of learning about the various aspects and dimensions of this field, as well as the skills and knowledge required to succeed in it.

However, my journey as a mass communication student has not been an easy one. I have faced many challenges and difficulties along the way, both academically and personally. One of the biggest hurdles I encountered was financial hardship. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to pay my tuition fees and had to defer my studies for a year. This was a devastating blow to me, as I had worked hard to get into the program and had high hopes for my future.

After the year of defferment I managed to resume classes and later on, I applied for an attachment at various media houses and organizations, hoping to learn from the professionals. To my delight, I was accepted by a local radio station so I was eager to start working and learning from them.

However, I soon realized that working in the media industry was not as glamorous or easy as it seemed. I faced many challenges and pressures in the workplace, such as tight deadlines, heavy workloads, competitive colleagues and ethical dilemmas. I also had to deal with no pay and long hours. I often felt overwhelmed, stressed and frustrated by the realities of the media world.

Despite these difficulties, I also found working in the media industry to be rewarding and enriching. I learned a lot from the experienced and talented media practitioners I worked with. I gained valuable insights into the different aspects and processes of media production and dissemination. I developed my technical and creative skills in writing, editing, reporting, interviewing, designing and more. I also improved my interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with various people and situations.

Moreover, working in the media industry gave me the opportunity to explore my interests and passions in mass communication. I discovered new topics and genres that appealed to me, such as social issues, entertainment, sports and culture. I also experimented with different media formats and platforms that suited my style and personality, such as podcasts, blogs, videos and social media. I found working in the media industry to be exciting and fulfilling.

Overall, my journey as a mass communication student has been a challenging but rewarding one. I have faced many obstacles and setbacks along the way, but I have also learned from them and overcome them with determination, resilience and optimism. I have also seized many opportunities and benefits along the way, which have helped me grow personally and professionally. I am grateful for the experiences and support I have received from my teachers, mentors, peers and family. I am also proud of the achievements and contributions I have made to the field of mass communication. I look forward to continuing my journey as a lifelong learner and creator of mass communication.
